These just in passing, I guess...
If there is a song that -- for me -- sums up the sensations that could be associated with making the transition from the page and method-coated cocoon of coursebook oriented instruction to unplugged teaching, I think my old buddy Tom Petty came close to summing it up well here:
(Okay, I'm mainly talking about the actual lyrics here, and not some of the stranger or steamier scenes in the video clip, though I love the image of the lined up rotted out airplanes...)
And then, once you are skilled and confident enough (having learned to fly...) to back yourself and make the learners and learning environment the centre and catalyst of the language learning multiverse, finding yourself in a situation where you are forced to keep using coursebooks is rather like seeing this:
