Yes, for a very brief period there, I turned the blog comments function off. I've just decided to turn them back on again!
The initial move to turn them off was an experimental one, mainly to explore how blog posts can and do interact across multiple social networking platforms. It did, in fact, generate some interesting conversations in Twitter (about both the content of the posts and also the very move to turn off blog comments!).
It also earned me some stinging rebukes from David Deubelbeiss and Karenne Sylvester (who sternly accused me of depriving readers of their 'right' to respond - a little debatable perhaps, but I see and appreciate her general point).
Above and beyond anything, I guess it is a mistake to close down any doors (irrespective of how many exist) that allow and encourage people to have and share an opinion on an issue or topic. Who cares, essentially, whether comments are appearing on Facebook, Twitter or on the post itself? Surely they all ought to be open avenues, right?
So there you have it: a short-lived experiment and another learning experience!
:-)
P.S. I think it is entirely understandable if you feel no compulsion whatsoever to comment on this post... ;-)
