My son absolutely adores the picture book Where the Wild Things Are (by Maurice Sendak). It is an absolute classic, written way back in 1963.
Well, the exciting news is that an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC movie adaptation of the storybook is currently in post-production and is due out in October this year. Here's a preview for you!
This looks absolutely sensational and - given the role of Maurice Sendak in the movie-making process - looks to be pretty true to the original story and look/feel (there were scenes from the film clip above that made me think immediately of certain pages in the book).
Despite being banned in many places in the 60s, this book/movie/story is one of the sure things to help kids get over their fear of monsters and see the potential for beauty in things that may not look all that pretty to start out with. It is also a masterpiece of raw imaginative power.
Don't miss the movie - and if you don't have the book yet, get it!
